In this series, I’m pairing some of the 2018 UK Games Expo Award winners with tasty recipes. I was debating whether to include this one, given the current Covid-19 situation, but it’s a good game and seems unfair to exclude as it did win people’s choice for best new dice game in the 2018 Awards.
Dice Hospital
In Dice Hospital, 2-4 players use their hospital staff to treat patients, represented by dice, on individual hospital boards, trying to treat as many as possible to keep the local authorities happy. You can place your staff, use actions on your player board or call in specialists to treat the dice and improve their health (represented by the pips on dice) to earn reputation points. The player with the highest reputation at the end of the game wins.
To go with this game, try a soothing bowl of chicken noodle soup, and serve in mugs to keep hands free for gaming.
Chicken Noodle Soup
Ingredients
- 1.5 litres chicken stock
- 2 chopped up chicken breasts or equivalent of thigh meat
- 1 onion
- ¾ pack of egg noodles [note: this is a lot of noodles, if you prefer a less noodly soup, go for ¼ pack]
- 1 cup sweetcorn
- 1 tsp garlic
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1 chilli (optional)
- Chopped spring onions
- 2 tbsp oil
Method
Heat the oil in a large saucepan on a medium heat. Cook the onion in the oil until it is soft and then add the chicken. Cook until the chicken is completely cooked through. Add the stock and leave on the heat until boiled, then turn the heat down so it is simmering. Stir in the sweetcorn, noodles, ginger, garlic and chilli if you want to add some spice. This is a thin soup so cook until the noodles are cooked through then dish into bowls or mugs. Sprinkle with a pinch of the chopped spring onions just before serving.
We love hearing from you – what would you pair with this game?
